Ensign John Davis of the USS Tulip needs your help!!
Hot off the Press, #themonumentalproject approached Southwark Heritage Association to nominate John Davis, the founder of the London Branch of American Civil War Veterans for a “Blue Plaque”. John was one of the few survivors of the USS Tulip when it went down in cold winter waters after its boilers exploded.
The more votes he gets, the greater the chance that John will secure the prestigious “Blue Plaque”
Southwark News will be showcasing each nominee in the coming weeks Here’s the press piece -
From 1910 to 1940 The London Branch of American existed. John supported the men on its roll , often giving them money, helping them with pension applications. And for the homeless Civil War Veterans he often allowed them to live at his home in Blue Anchor Lane. Without John Davis their lives would have been very different.
Here’s how to make your mark and honour the Missionary of Blue Anchor Lane who helped change the lives of so many American Civil War veterans in London.
All you have to do is email isabel@southwarknews.co.uk or admin@southwark.org.uk with the name of the person you want to nominate.
Don’t delay and please Share- Share-Share !!!! Voting closes on Thursday 1st June.
