⭐⭐
This book is the first of a pair that tells the story of the RAF airfield at Hornchurch in Essex. Sited to the east of London it defended the capital from air assault along the lines of the Thames. Initially founded for service with the Royal Flying Corps, it was from here that Lt William Leefe Robinson took off to successfully attack and bring down the first Zeppelin airship of British soil. However it was in the Second World War that Hornchurch would gain fame as an 11 Group Airfield defending southern England in the tense summer of 1940.
I purchased this book as I volunteer at the RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre and felt that it was worthwhile to read this book to understand the history. I found this book very hard going, the writing was not the best with very little flow to it.
