In this episode of American Civil War & UK History, Podcast host Daz was joined by historian Martin Russell to discuss how and why the English Civil Wars started.
The English Civil Wars (1642–1651) started because King Charles I clashed with Parliament over power, money, and religion. Charles believed he could rule without Parliament, but his unpopular taxes, Catholic-leaning policies, and failed handling of rebellions led to open conflict. In 1642, after trying to arrest MPs, both sides raised armies — Royalists for the King and Parliamentarians against him.
